FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How physical are the hunts?
Not very. Most hunts are done from a UTV or pickup with your guide, so there are no long hikes or steep climbs. If you have a bad knee, a bad back, or anything else we should plan around, tell Danielle when you book and we'll set the hunt up for you.
All of our hunts are fully guided, and we handle field dressing and processing your animal. Your harvest will be skinned, quartered, and hung in our walk-in cooler or freezer until you’re ready to head home. Bison, elk, and whitetail packages include professional butchering services (vacuum-sealed, labeled, and frozen) at no extra cost. Taxidermy preparation is also available on request. Just let us know ahead of time so we can coordinate with a local taxidermist.
Yes! Many guests bring along spouses, children, or friends who simply want to share the experience. Non-hunting guests are welcome to ride along, take photos, and enjoy the lodge and scenery. The non-hunter guest fee is $150 per day, which includes lodging and meals. It’s a great way to make the hunt a family or group adventure.
Yes. All animals harvested at ReWild Ranch can be skinned and quartered by our guides, with meat hung in our walk-in cooler or freezer until you’re ready to depart. If you’d like your animal caped for taxidermy, just let us know at the time of harvest and we’ll prepare it properly. Professional butchering and vacuum-sealed packaging are included in bison, elk, and whitetail packages.
All of our hunts take place on ReWild Ranch property or on carefully managed leased land nearby. This gives us access to prime habitat in the Nebraska Sandhills while keeping every hunt private and authentic. Whether you’re after bison, elk, deer, turkey, or predators, you’ll be hunting animals that roam freely in their natural environment. Depending on the species and conditions, hunts may be conducted on foot, by UTV, or by pickup.
We recommend booking your hunt as early as possible to secure your preferred dates. Many seasons, especially elk and deer, fill up months in advance. Bison hunts are available year-round, but the thickest hides of the year come from December through March, the best time for a bison rug or mount. Turkey hunts are popular in both spring and fall, and predator hunts can be arranged throughout the year. If you have specific goals (such as prime meat or a trophy hide), let us know and we’ll help you choose the right season.
Deposits and cancellations: a 50% deposit holds your dates and is non-refundable. Final payment is due by July 1 for whitetail hunts, January 1 for turkey hunts, and 90 days before your hunt for everything else. Deer and turkey permits sell out fast, so add the sale date to your phone's calendar as soon as you book and be online when sales open. If you try in the first hour and get shut out, we'll move what you've paid to a future hunt. If you don't try, it's treated as a cancellation. Can't make it? You can transfer your hunt to another hunter at no charge. Read our full cancellation policy.
For bison and elk, we recommend a minimum .30 caliber rifle, sighted in at 50 yards. Muzzleloaders, sharps, and large pistols are also welcome. For deer, turkey, and predator hunts, appropriate rifles, shotguns, or bows are permitted depending on the species and season.Other helpful gear includes:Binoculars and shooting sticksQuality hunting boots and layered clothing (weather can change quickly)Large coolers (or even a small freezer) for transporting meatYour favorite personal hunting accessoriesWe provide blinds, calls, and guides for most hunts, but you’re welcome to bring additional firearms for target practice at our gong range.
It depends on the species. At ReWild Ranch, no hunting license is required for bison or elk hunts. For deer, turkey, and predator hunts (bobcat, coyote, badger), you will need to purchase a Nebraska state hunting permit. These permits can be obtained directly through the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, and we recommend securing yours well in advance since some seasons sell out quickly. If you’re unsure which license or permit you need, our team will be happy to guide you through the process when you book your hunt.
Are there stairs to the rooms?
No. Every bedroom can be reached without stairs, and every room has its own private bathroom.
What airport should I fly into?
Most guests fly into Kearney, about 1 hour 15 minutes from Sargent, or North Platte, about 1 hour 45 minutes. If you fly your own plane, you can land at the Sargent airport, 5 minutes from the lodge.
Can I go fishing while I'm there?
Yes. Calamus Reservoir is about 30 minutes away and is known for walleye, white bass, catfish and northern pike. Plenty of hunters fish in the afternoon. Bring your rod, and ask Danielle for local tips.
Is there WiFi and cell service?
The lodge has free WiFi. Cell coverage out in the Sandhills depends on your carrier, so plan on using the WiFi at the lodge.
How do I get my meat home?
Your meat comes vacuum-sealed, labeled and frozen. Most hunters bring large coolers or a small truck freezer. If you flew in, ask Danielle about shipping it home by UPS.
